Risk Controls

What Stops the Engine When Markets Move Against You?

Quivarra enforces configurable risk limits at the platform level — independently of your strategy logic — so halts happen automatically.

Risk Controls That Operate Below the Strategy Layer

Strategy logic and risk enforcement are intentionally separated in Quivarra's architecture. Your strategy defines when to trade; the risk control layer defines when to stop. You configure hard limits on three dimensions: maximum single-position size (in lots or account percentage), maximum daily loss (as a KSh amount or account percentage), and maximum drawdown from equity high water mark. When any limit is breached, the risk engine sends a halt instruction to the order dispatcher — cancelling any pending orders and blocking new submissions — before alerting you by email and in-dashboard notification. The halt cannot be overridden by the strategy itself; only a deliberate manual reset by you restores normal operation.

Risk Limit Parameters You Control

Position Size Cap

Set a maximum lot size or account-percentage cap per order. The dispatcher validates every order against this limit before submission and rejects oversized orders automatically.

Daily Loss Ceiling

Define the maximum net loss permitted in a single trading day. When reached, the engine halts all new submissions for that session and notifies you immediately.

Drawdown High-Water Halt

Set a maximum drawdown percentage from your account's equity high-water mark. The engine stops automatically when this threshold is breached, protecting the remainder of your capital.

Instant Notifications

Every risk-triggered halt generates an immediate email and in-dashboard alert with the specific limit breached, the account state at halt time and instructions to review and reset.

What Risk Controls Do Not Cover

Quivarra's risk controls operate on the data your broker reports to the platform. If your broker's account feed experiences a delay or an outage, the risk engine's view of your position and loss figures may temporarily lag. In such cases, the platform defaults to a cautious state and halts new order submissions until the connection is confirmed healthy. However, positions already placed with your broker before the outage remain open at the broker level and are subject to that broker's own risk policies. Quivarra does not have the ability to close positions on your behalf without an authenticated, live broker connection. You should always maintain familiarity with your broker's manual close-out procedures as a contingency.
